The Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN), Kaduna electricity distribution zone, has claimed that about N21 billion was outstanding as unsettled debts from electricity bills owed it by the armed forces, police, politicians and other federal government agencies in the North West states.
Raising the alarm over the huge debts, the managing director of Kaduna electricity distribution company, Mohammed Idris who spoke through the general manager operations, Abdul Lawal at a news conference in Kaduna on Wednesday, lamented that such huge debt is largely affecting the smooth operations of providing constant power supply to its customers.
While explaining that the company has an expected revenue of 1.6 billion naira from monthly billing, the managing director said only 970 million naira is being generated monthly, adding that electricity supply in the zone can only improve when there is sufficient funds for the company to meet up with most of its major repairs and maintenance.
